Carl Spradlin Obituary

Carl Ray Spradlin, age 76, of Muncie, Indiana, met his Lord and Savior face to face on February 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born on April 18, 1950, in Jellico, Tennessee, to Wilburn and Christine Spradlin. After graduating from high school, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country while stationed in Korea.

Following his military service, Carl returned home and worked for Dayton-Walther in Muncie, Indiana, for several years. Feeling called once again to serve, he reenlisted in the National Guard in 1977, where he dedicated many years of honorable service. Carl achieved the rank of Master Sergeant, opened the National Guard Armory in Muncie, Indiana, in 1984, and retired from the National Guard in March 2002. He loved his country and was deeply proud of his service. He was respected not only for his military career but also for his compassion and willingness to help others who wished to enlist.

After retiring from the military, Carl continued his commitment to service as a civilian employee with the National Guard, where he worked for an additional 10 years before fully retiring.

Carl truly loved life. He enjoyed bluegrass music and loved to travel. Much of his retirement was spent taking small trips to antique stores, always ready to go, happy to drive, and content simply taking in the sights along the way. He had a deep appreciation for a good meal and enjoyed trying new things. The mountains of the South held a special place in his heart. Carl brought laughter wherever he went and was known for his kind and gentle spirit, as well as his fierce devotion to protecting those he loved.

Carl married the love of his life, Mary, in September 1969. Together, they made their home in Muncie, Indiana, where they built a life they cherished as best friends and lifelong partners. Carl was a member of Westside United Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Mary Spradlin; his special cat, Izzy; his sister, Donna (Bob) Journey of Union City; his sister-in-law, Nancy Spradlin of Michigan; and several special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Christine Spradlin; his brothers, Wilburn Spradlin Jr. and Roger Spradlin of Michigan; and Threadus Dobbs of Muncie, Indiana.

Carl was a devoted family man whose life was marked by faith, service, and dedication. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of country, and unwavering commitment to those he loved.
